Risk and Reward

July 9, 2014

Eurasia Group is the world’s largest political risk research and consulting firm. As Deputy Head of Research & Head of Emerging Markets Strategy, Christopher Garman explains why geopolitical risk is on the rise for Emerging Markets.

Christopher forecasts that emerging markets are in for a long cycle of lower growth, energy prices will be stable and trade relations will be in flux.

"We are in an environment where politicians, both in emerging markets and in developed markets, are facing domestic economic and political headwinds," says Garman, who thinks that the next few years will be difficult for the advance of environmental sustainability initiatives as leaders make choices geared more toward stability than to growth or change.

The Eurasia Group monitors political, economic, social, and security developments in Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America. They also examine cross-border issues such as trade, energy and other commodities, financial regulation, climate change, and global health.
